Meet Mrs. Bagwell, NBCT Art Teacher

I’m honored to be your art teacher this year. I am a Huntsville native and a graduate of Hazel Green High School. I earned my B.A. in Art with a minor in Education from Athens State University, graduating summa cum laude. I later completed my Master of Education in Instructional Leadership from University of West Alabama, and in 2021, I became a National Board Certified Teacher.

This is my tenth year in education and my fourth year at Journey Middle School. I have taught a variety of visual art courses, including Introduction to Visual Art, Intermediate Visual Art, Advanced Art, Sculpting Art, Mixed Media Art, and Introduction to Fashion Design. My goal is to help students build both artistic skills and creative confidence through hands-on projects and the exploration of different materials and techniques.

Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family, creating art, and spoiling my two cats, Hazel and Leo. My favorite mediums include charcoal, pastels, colored pencils, and gouache. I also love working with miniatures—building tiny, realistic houses and décor by hand is one of my favorite hobbies.

I am excited to see the incredible artwork each student will create. Get ready to explore, draw, paint, sculpt, and unleash your creativity as we make art together throughout the school year!
