Welcome to JOURNEY MIDDLE SCHOOL home of the JAGS. I am thrilled to serve as the 6th Grade School Counselor. This year marks my twenty-fourth year in education. I began my career with Madison County Schools in 2003 and joined Madison City Schools in 2017.

I earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Athens State University, a Master of Education in School Counseling from the University of West Alabama, and an Education Specialist degree in School Counseling from the University of West Alabama.

As the 6th-grade school counselor, my goal is to support students as they transition to middle school while fostering their academic, social, emotional, and personal growth. I am excited for all that the 2026–2027 school year will bring and look forward to the many opportunities ahead for our students, staff, and families. Please do not hesitate to reach out if I can be of assistance. Go JAGS!

Hello! My name is Lori Abramowitz, and I am excited to be joining the Journey Middle School community as a school counselor.

I was born and raised in Buffalo, New York, where I have lived for most of my life. My career began in education as an elementary and middle school counselor, and I have always been passionate about supporting the growth and well-being of children and adolescents.

In addition to my school counseling experience, I have a background in child development and have provided educational classes and support to parents and caregivers. I am also a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in New York State and have worked in a variety of inpatient and outpatient mental health settings. Most recently, I operated a private counseling practice in the Buffalo area.

As my family and I relocate to Alabama, I am grateful for the opportunity to return to the school setting, where I have always felt most at home. My goal is to support students' academic, social, and emotional development while partnering with families to help every child find success. I look forward to building relationships with students, families, and staff and I'm honored to become a part of this wonderful school community.

I am super excited to begin year 20 in education as a Journey Middle School Jaguar. As the 8th grade counselor, my goals are to enhance the learning process, promote academic, career, social and emotional development. I understand that it is essential for students to achieve optimal personal growth, acquire positive social skills and values, set informed career goals and realize full academic potential to become productive, contributing members of society.

I received my Bachelors of Science degree from Mississippi State University and my Masters in School Counseling from Murray University. I began my teaching career at John F Kennedy Middle School in West Palm Beach, FL where I taught Social Studies. After leaving Florida, I taught Social Studies at Christian County Middle School and Science at Fort Campbell High School both in Kentucky. After my tenure in Kentucky, I taught Science at Osan Middle School on Osan Air Force Base in South Korea. Upon returning to the United States, I returned to Kentucky where I served as an elementary and middle School Counselor. In 2019, I continued my teaching/counseling career with Madison County Schools.

I am a 26-year Army spouse and mother of an active duty Army soldier. My husband Patrick and I have made Huntsville our home since 2017. We have two children, Patrick Jr. and Trellini, and one granddaughter, Carmen.

I am looking forward to a successful, productive and amazing school year. Go JAGS!

Mrs. Jodi Jones, Career Coach

Hello, Madison City community! My name is Jodi Jones, and I am thrilled to introduce myself as the Career Coach serving Discovery, Journey, and Liberty Middle Schools. As someone who is deeply passionate about empowering students and preparing them for bright futures, it’s truly a joy to step into this role and advocate for the amazing opportunities available in career and technical education across Alabama.

A bit about me—after earning my Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Auburn University (War Eagle!), I spent some time working as an engineer before realizing that my heart was calling me to education. I pursued my secondary math certification and have since taught just about every math course imaginable, from 7th grade math all the way up to Calculus. My teaching career in Madison City Schools began in 2010 as a math teacher and tutor, with time spent at both Bob Jones High School and Liberty Middle School. As my career evolved, I discovered a love for the blend of math, engineering, and real-world problem-solving. This led me to teach Computer Science and CTE (Career & Technical Education) courses—truly the best of both worlds! I’ve seen firsthand how engaging in project-based, practical coursework helps students connect classroom learning to real careers and possibilities.

I became the MCS Career Coach in February 2024, and every day since has reaffirmed why I am so passionate about this work. As a Career Coach, my job is to guide and support students as they explore their interests, develop important skills, and learn about the incredible career pathways open to them. Whether it’s helping students identify their strengths, sharing information about technical programs, hosting guest speakers from industry, or assisting with post-secondary planning, I am here to make sure each student knows about the resources and opportunities available to them. My goal is to ensure every student feels supported to enroll, enlist, or find employment after graduation—whatever path is right for them.

And as a parent of three students who are products of Madison City Schools—two successful Auburn graduates now in graduate school, and one a current JCHS senior—I know firsthand the power of our district’s commitment to excellence. Our students are prepared not just for the next step, but for success in whatever future they choose. I am beyond excited to serve the incredible students, families, and educators at Discovery, Journey, and Liberty Middle School. Together, we can open doors, ignite passions, and set students on the path to fulfilling futures.

If you have questions about career tech programs or want to talk about your student’s interests, please reach out via email. Let’s work together to make sure every Madison City Schools student is ready to soar!
