💻 Device Information and Policy
- Mandatory Device Issuance: Per Madison City Schools (MCS) Board Policy, all students are issued a Chromebook by the district.
- Bringing Your Own Device (BYOD): Students cannot use a personal Chromebook. Our instructional applications require integration with our Google Enterprise system, which personal devices cannot join. Furthermore, we must install necessary software on all devices to ensure student safety and network security.
- Chromebook Cost and Durability: We understand that the device cost may seem high compared to retail models. This is because our Chromebooks are specifically chosen for the demanding school environment:
- They are more rugged and meet the MilSpec MIL-STD-810G standard.
- They include a protective case provided by the district to safeguard the exterior from accidental drops.
- The cost includes the non-transferable Google Enterprise license required for each device.
- Device Care: With proper care, these Chromebooks—which offer improved durability over the previous generation—should remain functional until the next technology refresh.
🛡️ Protection Plan and Repairs
The optional Protection Plan, offered annually at the time of student enrollment, is designed to cover accidental damage beyond normal wear and tear.
Repair Allowance and Replacement
- Annual Repair Reset: Yes, the repair allowances reset each year upon the purchase of the protection plan for that school year.
- Repair vs. Replacement: If a device is inspected and the first 'repair' is deemed irreparable due to a covered incident (and not intentional damage, loss, or theft), the service obligation switches from repair to replacement, which is covered under the plan.
Protection Plan Coverage: Normal Wear and Tear
Normal wear and tear refers to the minor, cosmetic deterioration that occurs with regular, careful use and is covered by the district regardless of the protection plan. Examples include:
